Tips for Longer-Lasting Beauty – How to Extend the Life of Your Lashes (and More!)

Maybe you're saving up for that long-anticipated trip to Europe but still want to squeeze in some treatments before you go. Or perhaps you're just too busy right now, and the less time you spend in the salon, the better!

The dilemma is, you still want to look your best during the spring and summer months, and home treatments don’t always deliver. Here are some expert tips on how to make the most out of your professional treatments and help them last longer, plus a few low-maintenance options.

Lady Lash Director Charlotte Creasey shares that "quality lash extensions, curled lashes, well-groomed brows, and radiant skin are looks that seem to stay – they’re not just fleeting trends."

But not everyone is naturally blessed with these looks, and a little TLC (with some subtle enhancements) can help you achieve that desired look. However, some treatments don’t last forever—like lash extensions, which do require regular upkeep. So, what are the best ways to make them last and get the most out of your beauty treatments?

“With lash extensions, the trick is to go shorter and fuller—and follow your lash stylist’s aftercare advice closely,” says Charlotte. “The more lashes you have applied, the more there are to lose over time, so they’ll look good for longer before needing an infill. By choosing a length just 1-2 mm longer than your natural lashes, they tend to stay neater for longer and are less likely to be affected by sleeping, swimming, etc., giving you more time between infills.”

“While the staggered, wispy lash trend (alternating long and short lashes) is popular right now, it does require more maintenance, as the longer lashes grow out and become messy more quickly. So, if you can’t commit to regular infills, I’d recommend sticking to shorter, more evenly-lengthed styles for longer-lasting results.”

Lastly, Charlotte emphasizes the importance of proper lash care to make them last. “Avoid oily or waterproof products, minimize makeup use on them, wash them daily with a lash cleanser (we recommend Lash Game Foaming Cleanser), and don’t pick or fiddle with them—leave them alone, and they’ll last longer!”

For brows, Charlotte suggests henna brows as a great option, as they generally last longer than a traditional brow tint. With proper care, they can last up to a week longer. “Keep the brows dry for at least 24 hours to let the skin stain set fully. After that, avoid excessive washing, exfoliation, or skincare products over the brow area to help them last as long as possible—up to 10 days on the skin and several weeks on the hair.”

For those tired of filling in their brows, cosmetic tattoos or microblading can be a longer-lasting alternative. “In terms of cost-per-wear, a powder fill brow tattoo might end up being about the same as getting monthly henna brows for a year but lasts far longer and means fewer trips to the salon!”

When it comes to tanning, with natural tanning becoming less popular due to skin safety concerns, spray tans are a great option for that beach holiday look. Kate Joseph, Director of Dolce Vita Beaute, shares her tips on making spray tans last longer: “Exfoliate thoroughly before your tan, and moisturize well afterward! Many people avoid moisturizing because they think it’ll make the tan fade faster, but it actually helps extend it. Just be sure to use a body moisturizer without acids or exfoliating ingredients, and you’ll extend your tan by several days.”

For facial treatments, Kate also stresses the importance of aftercare. “Having a strong day and night skincare routine will help extend the results of your facials. Combining monthly facials with daily at-home professional treatments can give you incredible results.”

And if you’re looking for quick, budget-friendly treatments that deliver noticeable results, both Charlotte and Kate agree that a simple lash and brow tint with a brow shape is an excellent option. “Enhancing your eyes and brows can really pull your look together, making you appear refreshed, bright-eyed, and well-groomed.”
